Cheap Flights to Chiang Mai

Though Chiang Mai International Airport isn’t the international hub that Bangkok’s airport is, it is still a major player. Cheap flights from here to shorter-haul international destinations such as  Kunming, China; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Taipei, Taiwan; Singapore; Luang Prabang, Laos; Seoul, Korea; and Yangon, Burma, are all easy to come by, which means that you won’t have to return to Bangkok in order to catch a flight out of the country.

It’s also possible to fly direct to Chiang Mai from other destinations in Thailand, including Phuket, Ko Samui, Chiang Rai, and Bangkok’s Don Muang. You’ll pay more than you would for the bus or train but save yourself at least a full day or night of travel, if not two, by flying.

On AirAsia, domestic destination tickets are super cheap – often well  under $100 – but keep in mind that travelers have had problems booking online, so you  might need to go through a travel agent. Baggage will cost you 420 Baht for up to 15 kilos, though the first seven kilos are free.

The cheapest flights to Thailand are through Bangkok, but as always, the easiest way to find the best price is to use a program that searches many different airlines at once (see below).
